Valenciennes campus: our accommodation and services
The Valenciennes campus at a glance
The main campus of the UPHF, the Mont Houy campus, extends over the towns of Valenciennes, Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes and Famars, with nearly 10,000 students, this reasonably sized university is the leading polytechnic university in France.
Location and getting there
The Mont Houy campus is very easy to get to. By car, it is easily accessible from the Paris-Brussels motorway (A2) and there are numerous spaces on campus for easy parking. Also close to the Poirier Université and Trith Saint-Léger stations, the campus is easy to get to from other nearby cities. Finally, a tram line runs through Mont Houy from one side to the other, connecting it to central Valenciennes and, in particular, the Valenciennes train station in 19 minutes. Three T1 tram stops serve the campus. There are also regular buses (day and night) to the campus.
Campus history and development
The Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France was founded in 1964, under the name of the Centre d’Enseignement Supérieur Scientifique de Valenciennes, as a branch of the University of Lille. Although it obtained full university status – as the University of Valenciennes and Hainault-Cambrésis – in 1979, it did not take its current name until 2017. The first polytechnic university in France, it offers an original model organised around two hubs: humanities on the one hand, science and technology on the other.
