Pau campus: our accommodation and services
The Pau campus at a glance
Location and getting there
The city of Pau is home to the main campus of the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA). This city campus is easy to get to as well as being close to the Pyrenees. By car, take the N117 and N134 or the A64 motorway (exit 10). There are 6 bus stops close to the university, Pau train station is less than 3 miles away and Pau-Pyrénées airport can be reached in about 20 minutes.
Campus history and development
The history of UPPA has its roots in the Renaissance, with the creation of the College of Arts in 1549 and the formation of the third Protestant Academy in 1564, later made into a University in 1583. Later, in 1722, a new Universitas Bearniae was founded, composed of two faculties of arts and law, to which a faculty of theology was added in 1780. But UPPA was founded in 1946 via an agreement, signed by the Rector of Bordeaux, which allowed the opening of law courts in Pau. The Institute of Legal and Economic Studies was then created and, in 1955, a History of Law Chair was added. Since then, other institutes (Arts and Humanities) and colleges (Arts and Sciences) have joined them. This led to a presidential decree formalising the creation of the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) on 12 December 1970.
