Location and getting there
Located on the Channel-North Sea coast, ULCO is in the heart of three port towns, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Calais and Dunkirk, as well as further inland in Saint-Omer. Located in the Hauts-de-France region, at the gateway to Northern Europe, 125 miles from Paris, Brussels and London, ULCO enjoys a privileged geographical location.
In the immediate vicinity of Dunkirk city centre, between the Freycinet docks and the Citadel, the Dunkirk campus is ideally situated. With an Institute of Technology (IUT), an engineering school (EILCO), an international business school and several research firms, this campus is easily accessible by public transport – bus lines N2 or 16 – or by car, with several car parks on campus.

Campus history and development
Created in 1991, the Université Littoral Côte d’Opale has four sites. With 10,400 students, including 1,200 foreign students, it has 12 teaching departments, 3 research centres and institutes, 14 research units and 2 doctoral schools. 540 teachers and 325 researchers work there every day. The Dunkirk campus was built in the early 1990s and the main buildings were completed in 1990, 1994 and 1997. As well as the ULCO branch, the city of Dunkirk is also home to other schools, such as IMT Nord Europe and Campus Pro.

University halls and student residences
The ULCO Dunkirk website provides students with available housing solutions. From the rental file to booking accommodation, everything is done online. You can also apply for accommodation through the Lille Crous organisation.
But in Dunkirk, one student residence stands out: the All Suites Study residence. Located on Quai Freycinet, it offers a central location, a 10-minute walk from Dunkirk train station. Student life in Dunkirk
Culture, events, shopping centres and shops and Malo-les-Bains beach just 1.5 miles from the university, Dunkirk is very appealing. Enjoy an exceptional environment in a city with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Restaurants, cafés, shops and shopping centres
When you’re a student, budget is important. And Dunkirk has plenty of surprises in store at the right price for an evening with friends: frites, pizza, crepes, Asian or French cuisine, many establishments offer a good meal for €20 or less!
Dunkirk, renowned for its friendly atmosphere, offers many cheap bars for a night out. As the university campus is close to the city centre, you can easily get to the historic centre where most of the establishments are located on foot (in about 15 minutes) or by public transport (about 10 minutes).
But Dunkirk also has a wide variety of shops. Two shopping centres – Pôle Marine and Cité Marine – are less than a mile from the All Suites Study student residence. The city centre and its pedestrian streets are also great for an afternoon of shopping and leisure pursuits such as cinema, theatre, concerts, etc.
Sports facilities, clubs and activities
The 5th largest urban centre in the Hauts-de-France region, Dunkirk is a dynamic yet modestly sized city. With the second largest student population in France, the region offers numerous facilities, a rich and lively community life as well as many activities:

But ULCO’s various associations also give you the chance to have fun, work out or improve your knowledge. In terms of cultural life, ULCO organises various shows and events throughout the year via the Service Commun de la Culture (SCC) at La Piscine and La Chapelle, the Maisons de l’Étudiant (MDEs) and the Library (BU). The university also offers a wide range of sports at different levels: leisure or competition. The ULCO gives you the chance to incorporate sports into your curriculum through the SUAPS (Service Universitaire des Activités Physiques et Sportives).
