MONUMENTAL PARIS
Paris is monumental, in terms of its size of course, but also its rich architectural heritage! One of the symbols of the capital, its most famous monument is of course the Eiffel Tower. This unique “Iron Lady” offers visitors unrivalled views. Not far away is the equally emblematic Arc de Triomphe. Steeped in history, it dazzles on bright days when you can see the sun set inside its great arch. Another must-see, Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral offers a magnificent spectacle. In this masterpiece of Gothic architecture, its sculptures, towers and even its crypt are there to be admired! Equally evocative and the inspiration of writers and film-makers, the Sacré-Coeur Basilica is home to the largest mosaic in France and offers incredible views at the top of the Montmartre district. Paris also has legendary squares: Place de la Concorde with its two fountains, rostral columns and incredible Luxor Obelisk, Place de la Bastille with its famous July Column, which commemorates the days of the Revolution and its very modern Paris National Opera, Place des Vosges and even Place de l’Opéra with its magnificent Opéra Garnier…
PARIS AND ITS MUSEUMS
As well as its impressive monuments, Paris is home to many museums. Who hasn’t heard of the Louvre? This magnificent building, with its remarkable architecture and glass pyramid, has been one of the largest museums in the world for two centuries: 35,000 works in 8 departments and no less than 652,000 square feet of rooms dedicated to permanent collections. The Musée d’Orsay, housed in a former railway station, and its monumental clock are famous for its imposing collection of impressionist art. Immerse yourself in Western artistic creation. In search of something more exotic? Visit the Musée du Quai Branly, which devotes more than 420,000 square feet to the permanent exhibition of a selection of indigenous art and cultures of Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania. A leap into the future? Head to La Villette where the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie welcomes young and old alike for a magical encounter with the countless secrets of science and image. The museums are so varied and so numerous that it is difficult to write just a few lines about them. Whatever your interests, you will find something to satisfy your curiosity. The hard bit is trying to decide!
THE PARISIAN WAY OF LIFE
Paris is a great place to visit and a great place to live. You can’t stay in the capital without sampling its unique way of life! A coffee on the terrace of a Parisian bistro, lunch in a brewery, a sumptuous dinner in a gourmet restaurant or lesser-known but equally tasty establishments serving world cuisine, a local speciality to be enjoyed on the go such as falafel on Rue des Rosiers or Breton galettes at Montparnasse… It’s impossible not to find something you like on the streets of the capital. Make time for some retail therapy in the fashion capital: shopping centres and bustling neighbourhoods (Les Halles, Montparnasse, Rue de Rennes, etc.), department stores (Le Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, BHV)… there is no shortage of opportunities. To recharge your batteries and enjoy a moment of calm, why not do like the Parisians and relax in one of the city’s many parks or gardens? Try Jardin des Plantes, Jardin des Tuileries, Jardin du Luxembourg, Parc Montsouris or Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. To discover the world of Parisian luxury, explore the Champs-Elysées or visit Place Vendôme, names that are especially evocative! But Paris is also about celebration and the famous Parisian nightlife. Bars, pubs, clubs, casinos, cabarets… the choice is yours! There are a thousand and one ways to experience Paris.
And finally, Paris is a youthful city with nearly 330,000 students and young professionals. A dynamic population eager to try out the latest trends in brunch, culture and gastronomy.
